I recently bought this handy flashing light to keep cars from hitting me when I ride my bike at night. So far it's working... now if I could only find a bike accessory that keeps drunk frat boys from yelling at me on Friday nights.
I also recently snapped this picture on a bike ride, of a monument for some civil war general who killed a bunch of rebels or something.

Having been in control of both the bicycle and the motor vehicle while on the roads at night, I will strongly affirm the purchase of such a light -- several, in fact, for visibility in all directions.
